The Grand Wazoo is the eleventh album by The Mothers, sixteenth overall by Frank Zappa, released in November 1972. It was written and recorded during Zappa's period of convalescence after being assaulted in December 1971 in London, UK.
Aynsley Thomas Dunbar (* 10. Januar 1946 in Liverpool) ist ein britischer Schlagzeuger. Er spielte unter anderem bei John Mayall, Alan Reeves und Frank Zappa und in den Bands Jeff Beck Group, Jefferson Starship, Journey, UFO und The New Animals um Eric Burdon.
The Grand Wazoo plays out in a pretty excellent manner. In particular Aynsley Dunbar's continues to make the case that he was perhaps Zappa's best drummer, laying down a marvelously roaming drum beat. If I could listen to simply the drum track alone, I'd still probably dig it.

Dunbar was later the drummer for Frank Zappa, playing on the solo albums Apostrophe (') and Waka/Jawaka, and the Mothers' albums The Grand Wazoo, Fillmore East – June 1971, and Just Another Band from L.A., as well as the film 200 Motels.
The Grand Wazoo, the longest song on the album, is a funky jam with great horn breaks intersperced to spice things up. Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus is a delightfully pompous number, and Eat That Question boasts some of George Duke and Aynsley Dunbar's best performances anywhere.
