4. Nov. 2023 · The Library of Congress holds the nation's largest public collection of sound recordings (music and spoken word) and radio broadcasts, some 3 million recordings in all.
4. Nov. 2023 · There are several ways to search for recorded sound materials in the collections of the Library of Congress, including the Online Catalog, SONIC (the Recorded Sound Section's catalog), and collection guides and finding aids.
On January 27, 2003, the first 50 recordings were announced by James Billington, the Librarian of Congress. [3] The first four yearly lists each had 50 selections. Since 2006, 25 recordings have been selected annually. As of 2024, a total of 650 recordings have been preserved in the Registry.
