Richard Clare Danko (December 29, 1943 – December 10, 1999) [1] was a Canadian musician, bassist, songwriter, and singer, best known as a founding member of the Band, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. During the 1960s, Danko performed as a member of the Hawks, backing Ronnie Hawkins and then Bob Dylan.
All voices and most instruments were performed by Rundgren, with occasional contributions from Runt members Hunt and Tony Sales, along with various session musicians including Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Mark Klingman, John Miller, and three members of the American Dream.
On Rundgren's Runt album, released the same year, Levon Helm and Rick Danko appears on drums and bass on the song "Once Burned". Rundgren used a different bass/drum team on "I'm In the Clique" - Steve Swallow & Roy Haynes from the Gary Burton Quartet, so it seems he was experimenting with using different rhythm sections on different songs to get a particular mood.
