4. Juni 2021 · This reissue showcases Donahue’s own big band recordings up to the immediate post-war years. His band had a hard-swinging Jimmie Lunceford approach on the early titles and the leader, who is the principal soloist, had an attractive Georgie Auld by way of Lester Young sound on tenor.

Still a respected instrumentalist, Donahue finished his career serving for a short time as musical director at the Playboy Club in New York City, then from 1969-on as leader of the house band in the Circus Room of the Nugget Hotel in Sparks, NV (just east of Reno).
