The Dawn of a New Beginning "Mindful" was chosen one of the Top 10 CDs of 2000 by the Virginian Pilot. On December 20, 1999 Sunna went into Systems Two in Brooklyn along with Tony Malaby, Drew Gress and Scott McLemore. It was an incredibly productive session which produced enough material for "Mindful" and the newly released "Songs from Iceland."

In December 1999 she recorded the CD Mindful with a quartet that featured bassist Drew Gress, saxophonist Tony Malaby and again drummer Scott McLemore. The CD was released in March 2002 on Sunny Sky. Sunna Gunnlaugs has toured the US, Europe and performed at all the major festivals in Canada.
