John Lowe, who played piano for the Quarrymen, the band that became the Beatles, passed away in 2024. He was 81 and had a rare recording of the group from 1958 that McCartney bought in 1981.
"In Spite of All the Danger" is the first song recorded by the Quarrymen, then consisting of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, pianist John Lowe, and drummer Colin Hanton. McCartney wrote the song and Harrison provided the guitar solo, and so the song is credited to McCartney–Harrison.
29. Juni 2022 · The songs featured John ‘Duff’ Lowe on piano, a school friend of McCartney’s who was recruited for his ability to play the arpeggio at the beginning of Jerry Lee Lewis’ ‘Mean Woman Blues’. He later recalled the preparation that took place prior to the recording.
