Herbie Nichols Trio is an album by American jazz pianist Herbie Nichols, recorded on August 1 & 7 1955 and April 19, 1956 and released on Blue Note in 1956.
Alfred Lion, dem Nichols eigene Kompositionen geschickt hatte, [2] gab ihm 1955 endlich die Chance, in einem Trio für Blue Note Records seine Musik einzuspielen; als sich die Aufnahmen als nur schlecht vermarktbar erwiesen, wurde der Vertrag aber nicht verlängert, obgleich Lion Nichols als Pianisten besonders schätzte.
Rudd released three albums featuring Nichols's compositions (Regeneration, issued in 1983 by Soul Note, and The Unheard Herbie Nichols (1997), issued by CIMP in two volumes), as well as a book The Unpublished Works (2000).
