The Register of Graduates was a unique publication with roots that go back to 1846. At that time, as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United States Military was approaching, a graduate of the Class of 1833 stationed at West Point, George W. Cullum, began to compile a listing of those who had attended the Military Academy.
Following the war, President Thomas Jefferson signed legislation establishing the United States Military Academy (USMA) on the site in 1802. In 1817 the academy was transformed by the appointment of Sylvanus Thayer who drastically reformed the curriculum.
