Hunter was established in 1869 as "The Female Normal and High School", a private school to prepare young women to become teachers. The original school was composed of an elementary and a high school. High School Admissions. Admissions Process for 2024-2025. Hunter College Elementary School (HCES) and Hunter College High School (HCHS): Admissions into both HCES and HCHS for the 2025-2026 school year will open in the Fall of 2024 at a date TBD.
