Casimir ist der Sohn des Barons François Dudevant, eines ehemaligen Kavallerie-Hauptmanns, und des Dienstmädchens Augustine Soulé. Er darf zwar den Titel seines Vaters tragen, ist jedoch nicht erbberechtigt.
In 1822, at the age of eighteen, Sand married (François) Casimir Dudevant, an illegitimate son of Baron Jean-François Dudevant. She and Dudevant had two children: Maurice and Solange (1828–1899).
4. März 2013 · In 1831, Aurore Dupin Dudevant (George Sand) left her husband Casimir Dudevant and country estate Nohant (inherited from her paternal grandmother) to live and write in Paris, taking Solange with her. Aurore Dudevant adopted the pen name George Sand with the publication of her first single-authored novel, Indiana, in 1832.
