Obey the Time is the eighth studio album by English band The Durutti Column, released in 1990 by Factory Records. Conceived during the middle of the popularity of acid house in the band's native Manchester, band leader Vini Reilly chose to combine acid house, and other electronic dance music styles, with his signature guitar playing on a new album.
Vini Reilly was a brilliant musician and a true artist. I was so surprised to hear some of these pieces on "The Bear" series recently, so I guess his popularity is growing. Like the late Mark Hollis, it's a shame that the greater appreciation of his work is of no further use to him, personally.
'Obey the Time' is a typical sketch by Vini Reilly - musically speaking, obviously reviewing the period it came around - that of the Madchester clubbing and House music frenzy.

The Durutti Column ist eine britische Rockband, die 1978 in Manchester, England gegründet wurde. Die experimentelle Band ist im Wesentlichen das Projekt des Gitarristen und Pianisten Vini Reilly (* 1953) sowie des Schlagzeugers Bruce Mitchell (* 1948).
The album's title is a phrase uttered by the titular character of William Shakespeare's Othello toward his fiance, Desdemona in Act One, Scene Two: "I have but an hour of love, of worldly matters and direction, To spend with thee: we must obey the time."
