  6. Published on Nov 9, 2022. Last updated on Dec 26, 2023. Stephen G. Wentworth originally founded the Wentworth Male Academy in 1880 in Lexington, in honor of his son after he died in 1879 and in 1882 it was renamed the Wentworth Military Academy.

  7. Two popular Wentworth programs were the Falcon Program, which provided a one-year scholarship to Wentworth followed by an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the ROTC program, which provided a four-year scholarship to Wentworth followed by a commission in the U.S. Military.
