Jan Carel Juta (23 March 1824 – 7 April 1886) was a Dutch-South African publisher, bookseller and brother-in-law of Karl Marx. He was born in Zaltbommel, Netherlands. He married his wife Louise Juta on 5 June 1853 in a civil ceremony in Trier, Germany.

The history of Juta is in many ways the history of publishing and book retailing in South Africa. Jan Carel Juta was an enterprising young Dutchman. Trained in Law and married to Karl Marx’s sister, he sailed to the Cape where, in 1853, he established a company that would be described.
Jan Carel Juta was born in Holland in 1824, received a legal training, and emigrated to the Cape Colony in 1853 with his newly-wed bride, a sister of Karl Marx. Shortly afterwards he set up as a bookseller and publisher, specializing in legal and educational books. His firm, J. C. Juta and Co., which is still in existence, also issued a series of
Mrs Juta is known in history, not only as the wife of Jan Carel Juta, but also as the sister of the famous Karl Marx.
