Joseph Gerard Dooley III (born January 29, 1965) is the former head men's basketball coach of the East Carolina University Pirates, having previously served as head coach from 1995 to 1999 and 2018-2022.

11. März 2022 · GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — East Carolina fired basketball coach Joe Dooley on Friday after four seasons in his second stint at the school. Athletic director Jon Gilbert said he told Dooley, his staff and players that “we are going to move forward with a new leader” for men’s basketball.
Dooley was the youngest head coach in Division I men’s basketball at the age of 29 when he was promoted from assistant coach to ECU’s top position in April of 1995. He led the Pirates to a four-year overall record of 57-52 that included back-to-back 17-win campaigns to start his tenure.
