Entstehung
Die Musikgruppe wurde von Bill Drummond (* 29. April 1953 in Butterworth, Südafrika als William Ernest Drummond) (alias King Boy D, Time Boy) und Jimmy Cauty (* 1956 in Devon, England als James Cauty) (alias Rockman Rock, Lord Rock) gegründet. Drummond war zuvor bei der Plattenfirma WEA Manager der Popbands Echo and the Bunnymen und The Teardrop Explodes (Band von Julian Cope) gewesen und hatte dort auch Cautys Band Brilliantbetreut. Anfangs nannten sie sich The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (The JAMs, dt. Die wirklich wahren Ahnen/Vorfahren von Mu Mu) nach der fiktiven konspirativen Gruppe „The Justified Ancients of Mummu“ aus der Roman-Trilogie Illuminatus! und veröffentlichten im März 1987 ihre erste Single All You Need Is Love, die überwiegend aus Samples vom gleichnamigen Titel der Beatles und von Samantha Fox’ Touch Me (I Want Your Body) bestand. Ebenfalls 1990 machten sich Drummond und Cauty an die Neuaufnahmen der Lieder aus ihrem Film White Room, nun mit Gastmusikern und mehr Gesang/Rap. Die Titel wurden auch mit gesampelten Publikumsgeräuschen unterlegt, womit die Stilrichtung des Stadium House begründet war.
