College life. With rooms in houses on the historic Bailey and self-catered, modern flats across the river at Parson's Field, Cuth's provides a uniquely flexible range of accommodation and catering options to our diverse student body.
St Cuthbert's Society is a Bailey college, based on Durham's peninsula next to the River Wear, although it also has other accommodation a few minutes' walk away in Old Elvet. St Cuthbert's retains its title of 'society', although its workings have changed since its formation.
St Cuthbert's Society is named after St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne (c. 634 - 20 March 687), who lived in Anglo-Saxon Northumbria as a monk, bishop and hermit. St Cuthbert is celebrated every year on his Feast day, the 20th March, and the Society is included in the Cathedral's celebration of the Saint.
St Cuthbert’s Society JCR is a registered charity designed purely to offer our members the most opportunity possible out of their time in Cuth’s! With over forty sports and societies as well as committees as diverse as Outreach, Finance, Social, and Governance, there’s something for everyone.
Who's Who. Tammi Walker became Principal of St Cuthbert’s Society and Professor of Forensic Psychology in the Psychology Department at Durham in September 2021. Tammi has overall responsibility for the direction, leadership and management of the college.

St Cuthbert's Society. Durham colleges are very special places, and St Cuthbert’s Society (generally known as Cuth’s) is no exception. Teaching for degrees does not take place in colleges, but a great deal of life learning goes on in them, and lifelong friendships are made.
