  3. The school was opened in September 1955 and took its name from the Very Reverend Hugh Richard Lawrie (Dick), who was the vicar of St. Martins-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square. The school was originally built to accommodate 900 pupils but by January 1972 had increased its size to 1,010 pupils.
