  3. Alexis Korner died in London from lung cancer on 1 January 1984, at the age of 55. Korner was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2024 in the musical influence category.   5. Follow. Often referred to as the father of British blues, Alexis Korner helped bring together many English blues musicians. He was a pioneer and major influence in the sound of the 1960's British pop groups. In 1978 he started to present a Sunday evening blues and soul show on Radio 1.

Contribution to British Blues: formed the UK’s (and the world’s) first all-white, electric Blues Band; established the UK’s first Blues Clubs (The London Blues & Barrelhouse Club & The Ealing Club); and inspired a generation of new British Blues and R&B musicians.
