Early in his career, Porter worked with seminal New Orleans artists like Allen Toussaint, Earl King, Lee Dorsey, and Johnny Adams, Irma Thomas, The Lastie Brothers again to only name a few. Highlighting "Runnin' Partner" are two contributions by ace guitarist Earl King: "Rough Spots" and "Don't You Make Me Ig'nunt." King also sits in on these two cuts, which are given uptempo, funkified treatments by Porter.
In 1989, Porter reunited with Art Neville and Leo Nocentelli as the Meters, replacing Joe Modeliste on drums with Russell Batiste Jr. In 1990, he started a band called The Runnin' Pardners; a band that is still playing today.
