Makoto Iwamatsu (岩松 信, Iwamatsu Makoto, December 10, 1933 – July 21, 2006) was a Japanese-American actor, credited mononymously in almost all of his acting roles as simply Mako (マコ). His career in film, on television, and on stage spanned nearly fifty years and 165 productions, from 1959 to 2007.
Mako (1933-2006) was a Japanese-American actor who starred in films such as The Sand Pebbles, Conan the Barbarian, and Pearl Harbor. He also worked as a production designer and a soundtrack performer, and co-founded the East-West Players theatre company.

Acclaimed and pioneering actor Mako was also one of the leading advocates for Asian Americans in the performing arts. The son of well-known Japanese refugee artists Taro Yashima and Mitsu Yashima , he was born Makoto Iwamatsu in Kobe, Japan, in 1933.
