Thanks to him, the person who played an important role in the activities of the German section of the Cipher Bureau was Antoni Palluth, who purchased a civilian copy of the Enigma, allowing research on the device. The photos show a copy of the Enigma used during World War II. The device is currently stored in the Foreign Intelligence Agency.

After Rejewski had worked out the military Enigma's logical structure, the Polish Cipher Bureau commissioned the AVA Radio Company, co-owned by Antoni Palluth, to build replicas ("doubles") of the Enigma to Rejewski's specifications. His method of decrypting Enigma messages exploited two weaknesses of the German operating procedures.

  7. Working with engineers from AVA Radio Manufacturing Company they built the bomba – the first cryptanalytic machine designed to attack Enigma and one of many cryptanalytic machines to be built by Allied codebreakers.
