Born in 1903 in New York City, his father was a vaudeville comic and Ken taught himself to dance, sing, tell jokes, and even perform rope tricks to try and get ahead. It paid off.

Ken Murray was a prolific actor who created a name for himself largely on the big screen. He appeared in various films, such as "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and "Son of Flubber", and hosted his own variety show, "The Ken Murray Show".
Seinen bekanntesten Filmauftritt hatte er 1962 in der Rolle des Doc Willoughby im Film Der Mann, der Liberty Valance erschoß. 1960 erschien seine Autobiographie Life on a Pogo Stick. Im Jahr 1979 wurden in der Anthologie Ken Murray's Shooting Stars viele seiner Homemovies neu herausgebracht.
