Govan Archibald Mvunyelwa Mbeki (9 July 1910 – 30 August 2001) was a South African politician, military commander, Communist leader who served as the Secretary of Umkhonto we Sizwe, at its inception in 1961.

Aug. 2001 · Port Elizabeth - Govan Mbeki, a veteran of the ANC's liberation struggle and father of President Thabo Mbeki, died at his home in Port Elizabeth during the early hours of Thursday morning, the presidency has confirmed. President Mbheki's spokesman Bheki Khumalo said Mbeki (91)died at his home in Port Elizabeth at 2am on Thursday morning.
