O'Kelly, Seán Thomas (Ó Ceallaigh, Seán Tomás) (1882–1966), politician and president of Ireland, was born at 4 Lower Wellington Street, Dublin, on 25 August 1882, eldest son of Samuel O'Kelly, master boot- and shoemaker, and his wife Catherine (née O'Dea).
Seán Thomas O'Kelly (Irish: Seán Tomás Ó Ceallaigh; 25 August 1882 – 23 November 1966), originally John T. O'Kelly, was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as the second president of Ireland from June 1945 to June 1959.
He became the Minister for Finance in 1939 and secured the passing of ‘The Central Bank Act’ in 1942. Ó Ceallaigh ecame the 2nd president of Ireland in 1945 and was the first president of Ireland to visit the United States of America in 1959 as the guest of president Dwight Eisenhower.
