Gauḍapāda ( Sanskrit: गौडपाद; fl.c. 6th century CE ), [1] also referred as Gauḍapādācārya ( Sanskrit: गौडपादाचार्य; "Gauḍapāda the Teacher"), [2] was an early medieval era Hindu philosopher and scholar of the Advaita Vedanta school of Hindu philosophy.
Der Sanskritname Gaudapada (oder auch Gaudapadacharya) setzt sich zusammen aus den Substantiva gauda (गौड – gauḍa) Zucker, Molasse und pada (पाद – pāda) Fuß, d. h. zum Land des Zuckers gehörig, wobei Bengalen hiermit gemeint ist.
Gaudapada (c. 500 C.E.) is a reputed preceptor of Śaṅkaracarya and an expositor of Advaita Vedanta philosophy. He argues for the non-duality of consciousness, the non-origination of the world, and the contact-less contemplation as the path to liberation.
