Paul Berg (1926–2023) was a pioneer of recombinant-DNA technology, which allows genetic material from one organism to be artificially introduced into another. He won the 1980 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work and played a key role in the debate over the ethical implications of biotechnology.
Paul Berg (born June 30, 1926, New York, New York, U.S.—died February 15, 2023, Stanford, California) was an American biochemist whose development of recombinant DNA techniques won him a share (with Walter Gilbert and Frederick Sanger) of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1980.
