The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine is devoted to biomedical research with the aim of understanding the molecular basis of health and disease and translating findings as quickly as possible into clinical applications. Better prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases are the ultimate goals.

4. Sept. 2016 · The MDC is named for Nobel Prize-winning biologist Max Delbrück (1906 - 1981), regarded as one of the founders of molecular biology. Delbrück never worked directly in Buch but had important life-long scientific and cultural connections to the campus and Berlin.
Biographical. Max Delbrück was born on September 4th, 1906, in Berlin, Germany, the youngest of seven children. His father, Hans Delbrück, Professor of History at the University of Berlin, was for many years editor and political columnist of the Preussische Jahrbücher. His mother was a granddaughter of the chemist, Justus von Liebig.
