Larry Simon Gelbart (February 25, 1928 – September 11, 2009) was an American television writer, playwright, screenwriter, director and author, most famous as a creator and producer of the television series M*A*S*H, and as co-writer of the Broadway musicals A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and City of Angels.
Larry Gelbart was a prolific and acclaimed comedy writer for radio, TV, theater and film. He created M*A*S*H, wrote Tootsie and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and won two Emmys and a Tony.

13. Sept. 2009 · Im Alter von 81 Jahren ist er am vergangenen Freitag in seinem Haus in Beverly Hills gestorben. Erst im Juni war bei ihm Krebs diagnostiziert worden. Laut Gelbarts Frau schrieb er noch bis drei Wochen vor seinem Tod. „Eigentlich wollte ich gar kein Autor werden, aber ich war so ein großer Radio-Fan.
