Early life and education. Avalon was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, [4] the son of Mary and Nicholas Avallone. [5] . His mother was originally from Sicily. His father was a butcher who was born in Philadelphia, whose father Francesco was from Salerno, in Campania, Italy. His paternal grandmother was from Sicily. [6] Career. 1950s.
Frankie Avalon wuchs als Francis Thomas Avallone in einer musikalischen Familie auf. Schon früh lernte er Trompete und gewann lokale Talentwettbewerbe. Bereits mit neun Jahren hatte er seinen ersten Fernsehauftritt. Zwei Jahre später veröffentlichte er seine ersten beiden Singles mit Trompetensolis und trat der Band "Rocco and the Saints" bei.

Mini Bio. One of a spate of teen idols to come out of Philadelphia in the 1950s and 1960s, Frankie Avalon--unlike many of the others--actually had a musical background, having been taught to play the trumpet at a very young age by his father. As a youth Avalon performed in local clubs and theaters.
