Das Down House ist das Wohnhaus, in dem der britische Naturforscher Charles Darwin von 1842 bis zu seinem Tod mit seiner Frau und den Kindern lebte. Es befindet sich in der kleinen Gemeinde Downe (vormals Down) der Grafschaft Kent südlich der britischen Hauptstadt London.
Downe House School is a private girls' boarding and day school in Cold Ash near Newbury, Berkshire, for girls aged 11–18. Entrance is selective, and the school has an enrolment of 559. [2]
Down House is the former home of the English naturalist Charles Darwin and his family. It was in this house and garden that Darwin worked on his theory of evolution by natural selection, which he had conceived in London before moving to Down.
The difference is Downe. Disillusioned by the independent education that existed for girls at the time, our founder, Miss Olive Willis, held the strong belief that a school should meet the needs of young women by valuing and prizing individuals and engendering a strong sense of community.
Life at Downe House. Downe House is a fully active school every day of the week, including evenings and weekends, and every day looks different for every girl, whether they are boarding or day pupils. Downe House life offers warmth, excitement and opportunity.
