Kirya (an ancient Hebrew nickname for Jerusalem) is a 1992 album by Israeli singer Ofra Haza. Intended as the follow-up to Haza’s internationally successful Shaday (1988) and Desert Wind (1989) albums, it built on her successful blend of Electronic dance music and traditional Middle Eastern sounds, being a logical next step for Haza.
For the Kirya album, Iggy Pop, a friend of Don Was, performed the narration on "Daw Da Hiya" and Haza joined him and a host of other stars for the video and single release "Give Peace A Chance" in 1991.
Kirya was Ofra’s follow-up to the internationally successful Shaday (1988) and Desert Wind (1989) albums in 1992, recorded in England, Los Angeles and Brazil...

9. Aug. 2024 · Iggy Pop even makes an appearance on “Daw da Hiya,” the story of a girl ostracized after becoming pregnant out of wedlock. While her previous albums had focused on dance and pop, Kirya allowed Ofra to spend more time on tracks that played to her vocal strengths and the songs explored themes that were important to her personally.
