12. März 2023 · For years I thought Apocalypse Now was overly drawn out, tangential nonsense with Marlon Brando talking about snails crawling along a twig for 20 minutes at the end. That’s because I had been (I think incorrectly told) that Redux and Final Cut were better than the Theatrical Cut.

The added scenes also throw off the pacing, and one particular scene at a mansion completely ruins the atmosphere. The non-redux version is near flawless. 28.

The Playboy bunny scene, the plantation scene all adds to the overall inexplicable experience that I sometimes struggle to put in words. But like other posters said here, start with the Theatrical Cut -- that's the "film". Watch Apocalypse Now the Film. Go for the Redux if you want Apocalypse Now the Experience. 1.

Both are often considered masterpieces, even though many critics seem to think that the scenes included in the Redux ruin the pacing of the film.
