9. Apr. 2024 · Adlai Stevenson (born Oct. 23, 1835, Christian County, Ky., U.S.—died June 14, 1914, Chicago, Ill.) was the 23rd vice president of the United States (1893–97) in the Democratic administration of President Grover Cleveland.
He was governor of Illinois from 1949-53; he was nominated twice for the Presidency, in 1952 and 1956, and he was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations from 1961-65. But his legacy was varied, and much of it fell within three broad themes: Helping the Midwest in the 1930s to burst from its isolationism.
