Howard Blake "Walking in the Air " is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman based on Raymond Briggs 's 1978 children's book of the same name. The song forms the centrepiece of The Snowman , which has become a seasonal favourite on British and Finnish television. [1]

howard blake – extended biography Howard began playing the piano by ear at the age of 6, and the following year started lessons. He was given vocal training as a boy-soprano and on entering Brighton Grammar School took lead roles in their annual operas: Rose Maybud in 'Ruddigore', Bessie Throckmorton in 'Merrie England' and Josephine in 'HMS Pinafore'.
Blake is best-known as a composer, but began as a classical concert-pianist, at eighteen winning The John Lockey Festival Scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music to study with Harold Craxton.
Over the course of an immensely busy musical career as composer, pianist and conductor he has created over 700 works in many genres and categories. His most famous score is undoubtedly that composed for the animated film 'The Snowman' with its iconic song 'Walking in the Air' for which he also wrote the lyrics.
