20. März 2018 · Inspired by the name of Andy Warhol’s Factory, where Kellgren had partied with Lou Reed, the first Record Plant was built in an abandoned garage around the corner from the Scene at 321 W. 44th Street during the winter of 1968. From the outset, stood apart from other studios.
The original Record Plant, founded by Gary Kellgren and Chris Stone, was a 12-track studio in New York. Kellgren and Stone opened up a 16-track studio in Los Angeles only one year later in 1969, which quickly became known as Record Plant West.
