  1. About. Amersham Old Town is a charming town that is full of character. There are houses that date back as far as 1450 (housing Amersham Museum) and the Market Hall, that contained the town's gaol, dates from 1682. Historically, Amersham was once a centre for the Lollards, a religious movement following John Wycliffe.

  4. Chiltern Parade, Amersham on the Hill, 1930s. Amersham Old Town, or ‘Old Amersham’, has retained its medieval high street and has a wonderful variety of historical buildings including the landmark Grade II* listed Market Hall, built by Sir William Drake in 1682 as a gift for the townsfolk.

  5. Periodic architecture and over 150 listed buildings reflect Amersham's rich history. The generous width of Old Amershams High Street reflects its medieval tradition of weekly markets and an annual ‘chartered’ fair, rights granted by King John in 1200.
