Amerikanischer Country-Singer/Songwriter, geboren am 12. Juli 1945 in Lubbock, Texas, der Stadt, aus der auch Buddy Holly und Waylon Jennings stammen. Als Teenager lernte er Jimmie Dale Gilmore und Joe Ely kennen. 1971 gründeten diese drei, damals unbekannen Musikern die Formation The Flatlanders.
