Deganawidah, auch englisch the Great Peacemaker ‚der Große Friedenstifter‘ genannt, war ein legendärer Prophet der Irokesen. Er gilt als Gründer der Konföderation der Five Nations (Hau-Dé-No-Sau-Nee englisch people of the long house ‚Menschen des Langhauses‘) und Nationalheld der Irokesen.

Deganawidah told Hiawatha that he was also horrified by the endless wars and violence between the Iroquoian peoples, and he told Hiawatha that the Iroquois tribes needed to join together and create a council of the wisest men to govern them. Deganawidah then presented Hiawatha with a string of wampum.

He was said to have been born among the Huron of a virgin mother, and destined to bring peace and power to his people. His first miracle was building a stone canoe, in which he travelled to the Onondaga, where he made his first convert - Hiawatha.
