When the members of the country rock ensemble Dillard & Clark went their separate ways in 1971, bluegrass fiddler Byron Berline and guitarist/bass player Roger Bush formed the band Country Gazette. [2] Guitarist Kenny Wertz and banjo player Alan Munde soon joined. [2]
Al Perkins and Kenny Wertz replaced them for a final tour in autumn of 1971; during these performances, veteran bluegrass musicians Roger Bush (acoustic bass, vocals) and Byron Berline of Country Gazette participated as guests during an acoustic interlude.

Wertz, Kenny (4 February 1942–Present) Banjo player, guitarist and vocalist who started out playing clarinet and singing at church. He became involved in the San Diego music scene and performed in groups such as Avery Pitts, Les Baxter’s Balladeers, and The Shady Canyon Boys.
