Side two of the album features eight short compositions (five standards and three originals) played by McLaughlin on double-tracked acoustic guitars, with occasional punctuation on various cymbals by Billy Cobham.
The record features future Mahavishnu Orchestra band mates Billy Cobham and Jerry Goodman. Airto and Badal Roy also come along for the joyful ride. Violinist Goodman, in particular, makes some impressive interventions. An essential record from the mystic jazzrock genre.

Cobham and Goodman had played on McLaughlin's third solo album My Goal's Beyond (1971). McLaughlin's first choice for violinist was Frenchman Jean-Luc Ponty, but he was unable to join due to immigration problems. After listening to various albums he hired Goodman, formerly of The Flock.

Crosswinds is the second album of fusion drummer Billy Cobham. The album was released in 1974 and it contains four songs in total, all composed by Billy Cobham. It features songs that are more mid-tempo and slow-tempo as opposed to the earlier Spectrum album.

Mai 2019 · The first side of music is an interesting mix of Indian music (tabla, tanpura) and acoustic jazz, with McLaughlin emulating (after a sort) a sitar on his acoustic guitar, accompanied by a handful of top-tier jazz players (Jerry Goodman, Dave Liebman, Billy Cobham, Airto Moreira, Charlie Haden).
