  1. New Vibe Man in Town is the debut album by vibraphonist Gary Burton recorded in 1961 and released on the RCA label. It features Burton in a trio with bassist Gene Cherico and drummer Joe Morello (of Dave Brubeck fame).

  2. As the title suggests, New Vibe Man in Town was Burton's debut album as a leader, and he was placed very much in the limelight by being accompanied simply by bass and drums. Mind you, the drummer is Joe Morello, who can be almost overbearing at times.

  3. 12. Nov. 2021 · New Vibe Man in Town is a fun, breezy album that greatly benefits from the interplay between Burton and Morello. At several points, Morello upstages the junior Burton with his inventive playing, and rarely did I enjoy Burton’s soloing without thinking how well Morellos playing complemented it.
