Senior Soul / If She Walked Into My Life. BUY OR LISTEN. Billy Eckstine’s name may have faded from the charts by the time he cut this material for the Enterprise label, a division of Stax Records, between 1971 and ’74.
This reissue of a 1974 album finds the legendary Billy Eckstine trying to find traction in a long career. Caught in a time that was the nadir of jazz vocals (not even Tony Bennett could find a label!), Eckstine turned to Stax Records to mix a bit of pop and soul together.
Billy Eckstine. William Clarence Eckstine (July 8, 1914 – March 8, 1993) [1] was an American jazz and pop singer and a bandleader during the swing and bebop eras. He was noted for his rich, almost operatic bass-baritone voice. [2]
