In the late 1990s, Botti was a member of Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, a group exploring a more experimental, jazz fusion-oriented sound than his solo records. Starting in 1999, Botti toured with Sting as a featured soloist in the Brand New Day tour.

And if you only know trumpeter Chris Botti from his snoozer of a concert shown repeatedly on PBS, be prepared to be surprised. The guy can play out-of-the-mainstream, and excel at it as well. Great fusion, somewhere between the Bruford band for fusion, and Earthworks for jazz.
Formed by bassist Levin and drummer Bill Bruford (who had worked together as the rhythm section of King Crimson), the group also included guitarist David Torn and trumpeter Chris Botti. Torn, Bruford and Levin had recorded together on Torn's album Cloud About Mercury ten years before this.
21. Juli 2018 · The drums were still set up and miked and the studio was available for the next few days, so Tony proposed bringing trumpeter Chris Botti up from NYC to replace a busy Mark Isham, and we got to work right away on what became Bruford Levin’s Upper Extremities (BLUE).
