    The ISO 3166 is a standard for coding geographical units issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It consists of three parts.

    Part 1 lists two-letter (ALPHA-2) and three-letter country codes (ALPHA-3) since 1974, countries are marked with capital letters. ALPHA-2 codes also form the first two characters for currency codes according to ISO 4217.

    The codes are used in IBAN, ISO 7372, 9375, 7501-1, UN/LOCODE and WIPO ST.3 standards. AA, ZZ and QM–QZ & XA–XZ ranges are reserved for private use.
