Non-metropolitan districts are subdivisions of English non-metropolitan counties which have a two-tier structure of local government. Two-tier non-metropolitan counties have a county council and several districts, each with a borough or district council.

Metropolitan and non-metropolitan counties of England (from 2023) Since the latest changes in 2023 there have been 84 counties for local government purposes, which are categorised as metropolitan or non-metropolitan counties. The non-metropolitan counties may governed by one or two tiers of councils.

Non-Metropolitan Counties. Die Non-Metropolitan Counties in England besitzen einen Grafschaftsrat (County Council) und sind in Districts untergliedert. Eine übliche Bezeichnung für diese Counties ist auch Shire Counties, wobei die Endung -shire nicht in allen Namen vorkommt.
