The Johnstown Flood is a 1926 American silent epic film directed by Irving Cummings, that addresses the Great Flood of 1889 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The film stars George O'Brien, Florence Gilbert, and Janet Gaynor. [1] Plot.
The career of Florence Gilbert, who plays O’Brien’s betrothed, was overshadowed by her five marriages—one to Ashton Dearholt, pioneer film actor, and another to Edgar Rice Burroughs, the celebrated author of Tarzan. She made one more outstanding silent, The Return of Peter Grimm (1926), in which Janet Gaynor, now her friend, also appeared.
