  1. The London postal district is the area in England of 241 square miles (620 km 2) to which mail addressed to the London post town is delivered.

  2. It is divided into the City of London and 32 London boroughs, the result of amalgamation of earlier units of administration that can be traced back to ancient parishes.   4. London - Postal Districts: At the local level, areas are often identified by postal district. The capital postal area is divided into 119 districts, each centerd on a sorting office. An address in, say, SW1 carries a status that can be translated into property values.

  5. London postal districts To accelerate further the delivery of mail in London, Sir Rowland Hill proposed a solution which involved dividing the capital into 10 separate postal districts. The districts would be denoted by the compass points, and an office established for each district.
