It is divided into the City of London and 32 London boroughs, the result of amalgamation of earlier units of administration that can be traced back to ancient parishes. Each borough is made up of many smaller areas that are variously called districts, neighbourhoods, suburbs, towns or villages.

London - Postal Districts: At the local level, areas are often identified by postal district. The capital postal area is divided into 119 districts, each centerd on a sorting office. An address in, say, SW1 carries a status that can be translated into property values.
