Rowan Sebastian Atkinson wurde am 6.Januar 1955 in Consett, England geboren. Zusammen mit seinen zwei älteren Brüdern Rodney und Rupert wuchs er auf dem väterlichen Bauernhof auf. Nach seinem Schulabschluss studierte er Elektrotechnik zunächst an der Universität von Newcastle und später am Queens College in Oxford.
