The thing is, we add to this meaning our understanding of the normal behaviour of shops. As a rule, shops change from closed to open early in the morning, and change from open to closed at the end of the day.

25. Jan. 2013 · He remained his eyes closed. The main difference between the verbs is that 'to remain' is always intransitive and 'to keep' is transitive. Even in a sentence like "Keep quiet!" the direct object is implied (Keep yourself quiet). In the sentence "Remain quiet!" it would be incorrect to include 'yourself'.
