25. Sept. 2020 · Episode Discussion: S03E03 - Magic [Deutschland 89] I love Walter, he's so low key but so hysterical at it. The scene where he's sitting in bed with his "wife" and she has this deliriously wonderful reaction having to remind Walter to stay in character with all the bugs in the house. I rewatch his scenes several times, he's a genius.
28. März 2021 · So I just finished Deutschland 89, and boy oh boy, what a mess. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it for what it's worth, it's certainly entertaining in its own right, but definitely won't stick with me like the first two seasons were. 83 for me was a fantastic spy story. It revolves around the life of a talented spy and his adventures.

26. März 2021 · Thanks. One of the quirks of my career is that in 89 there were 2 particular jobs that I was in the running for, in Gatow and Gibraltar; I got Gib. I did a course in Jan 90 with the bloke who went to Gatow. He and his wife had spent the nights of late 89 downtown, an amazing experience.

The 89 season had some great early moments, and some almost surreal character arcs, but the ending was a cop-out, a bail-out, and a gratuitous slap at the whole southern border issue in the U.S. Near as I can tell, the writers must have thrown that stuff in simply because... they could. Lazy screenwriting for sure.
